A Better Alternative – Shampoo For Natural Hair

Shampoo for natural hair – do we need it to grow healthy hair? The shampoo is a degreasing agent that removes everything from the hair and scalp (sebum and dirt). But, unfortunately, it can also dry out our hair and scalp, causing breakage and less sebum production (dry scalp) or over sebum production (oily scalp). Furthermore, most shampoos contain product buildup ingredients that hide the damage, such as polymers, proteins, and silicone. Moreover, they have no nutritional or healing values. Instead, these synthetic (conditioning) agents provide a temporary fix that coats and hides damaged hair without improving hair growth from the follicles.

With constant use of shampoo for natural hair, we risk preventing the natural functioning of our scalp, causing slow hair growth, hair fall, less or over sebum production, and the elimination of toxins. Better alternative shampoos are herbs, shampoo bars, and castile soap.

I’ve also included recipes below to help get you started with your healthy hair care regimen.

Is Shampoo Bad For Natural Hair

Like most people, I used shampoo to cleanse my hair for many years. However, over the years, I realized even with deep conditioning, my scalp began producing less sebum, causing dry, flaky, itchy scalp and hair that does not retain moisture—resulting in the need to moisturize my hair frequently. If you need constant hair moisturization or experience dry, flaky, dandruff-prone scalp, you are doing something wrong in your hair regimen. Our hair should maintain a level of strength and elasticity. It should grow long lengths without constant moisture and the use of synthetic ingredients and products. Nature provides everything we need to maintain our hair, skin, and health.

Some people believe that using soap such as Castile soap and shampoo bars is harsh on the hair.

Some people believe that using soap such as Castile soap and shampoo bars is harsh on the hair due to their ph levels, or they think they over clean the hair, which is far from the truth. These cleaners do a great job removing excess product buildup caused by shampoo and conditioners without stripping the hair of its natural sebum. Enough sebum is left behind, leaving your hair soft and supple.

If you are concerned about mineral buildup due to hard water, a diluted apple cider vinegar or lemon rinse will remove mineral and calcium buildup from your hair.

Moreover, the dryness you are experiencing is a lack of sebum and product buildup due to the consistent use of shampoo, conditioners, and styling aids. Remember, most shampoos cause product buildup or completely strip sebum from your hair. – shampoo for natural hair

Healthy Hair Growth Using Herbs, Plant-Based Cleansers, and Food That You Can Eat

Healthy hair grows with washing our hair with gentle cleansers that nourish our scalps— hair oiling and applying occasional natural hair strengtheners and moisturizers to soften the hair. In addition, we can develop and maintain healthy hair using actual plants such as herbs, flowers, roots, plant-based cleansers (Castile soap), including plants, and the food we can eat such as coconut, honey, yogurt, etc. By using plants and plant-based derived food products as a part of our everyday hair care regimen, the need for consistent hair moisturization and scalp issues such as dandruff will cease to exist.

Over time, your hair regimen should develop into using actual plant-based products to clean, oil, and strengthen hair when using a holistic approach to hair care. In addition, moisture will easily retain itself through the hair cleansing process by no longer using synthetic chemicals in your hair and ending shampoo-damaged hair.
